March 28, 2009 on 12:30 pm | In Uncategorized | Comments Off
Learning how to economize small incomes is becoming more and more difficult, especially for younger people who may still be studying.
Students find it especially difficult for their lifestyle has changed considerably compared to the one they were used to when living with their parents.
It is important to realize, that unless you are working full time for seven days a week this lifestyle is not yet possible, so you will have to make a radical change in your style of life if you want to keep out of debt and save some money for extras.
It will take time and patience to achieve what your parents and family have, try and learn to appreciate the new activities you can afford, think that it is with your own money that you are buying something or going somewhere, this will render experiences all the more exceptional.
A good method for preserving your finances is by cashing your check and taking out the amount needed for paying bills, then try and put away some for savings and use the rest for your weekly activities.
You can keep a better control on your money by using cash as opposed to credit cards, for you will have a visual control over your expenditures.
Only buy things you really need do not have people convince you that you need more than you actually do.
You can create a wish list where you write down those things you would really like to purchase and their price, in order to get a better perspective over your actual needs and your whims.
How To Negotiate For A Higher Raise?
March 27, 2009 on 12:30 pm | In Uncategorized | Comments Off
Whether youre applying for your first job or negotiating for a raise, your raise will depend on how well you negotiate with your boss.
We all have anxieties over asking for money in any way, shape, or form.
We might know that the budget is tight and that our boss is concerned with minimizing costs in order to maximize revenue.
Sometimes, we wonder whether or not we deserve the raise in the first place. Other times, we are worried about whether or not our boss will be offended at us finding that our work is more valuable than our boss finds it to be.
Be sure to prepare for the raise negotiation. Practice several times the week before negotiating for your raise. Imagine how you think your boss would respond and prepare your own response to his response.
As long as you approach the request for a raise in the most respectful and patient way possible, you will not come across as demanding. Unless he is relatively new to his position, he should expect requests for raises.
If he does not feel that there is enough room in the budget for your request, he should already have experience responding in a respectful and considerate way.
Get to know your boss and learn how to pick up on nonverbal cues. You will eventually discover that there are times when your boss will be more responsive to suggestions.
During these moments, even if your boss realizes that he cannot give you a raise at this time, he will be more likely to remember you when it is time to give raises.
The best time to negotiate for a raise is when you are in the process of being promoted. An especially good time to ask for a raise is not long after you have accomplished something.
Your boss will be thinking more positively towards you and you will be able to use this success as evidence for your value to the company. If you demonstrate consistent usefulness, even a stingy boss will want to give you a raise in order to avoid losing you to another company.
Remember that you should have specific reasons why you deserve a raise. If your boss starts to seem hesitant, return to these points. Do not stray from these points because your boss will start to think that you are hesitant about your accomplishments. This in tune might cause your boss to feel hesitant.
When negotiating for the specific wage, ask your boss to name an amount and then ask for a little more. If your boss insists that you name a price, your prior research will come in handy.
Before even having the interview, you should research the average salary that those in your field have after working as long as you have. This will give you a rough number to go off of.
Most importantly, remember to improve yourself. Even if you feel that you are not being paid enough for your efforts, remember that your hard work will play a large role when you do negotiate.
Even if your boss does not give you the wage you are looking for, your accomplishments will look great on a resume when you are applying for an even better position at a company that appreciates your work.
Root canal fun (and questions)
March 26, 2009 on 11:17 pm | In Uncategorized | Comments OffI have never had a root canal before. I was told it may take three to four hours. I wish. Five hours, 45 minutes in the chair. I have toxic levels of novacaine and nitrous oxide coarsing through my veins.
I went in for my six-month visit last week. I wasn’t experiencing any pain. I was told I would need two fillings at best and possibly root canal. Once the dentist got in there she said the decay had reached the roots and they were infected. If the roots were infected why didn’t I feel any pain?
Is there any risk with using nitrous oxide for an extended period of time? I had the mask on for a LONG time. Initially they must have had the concentration turned up high because I was starting to go bonkers like I was on drugs (although, I have never done drugs so I have no idea what it feels like). There was someone monitoring the system but she did’t seem to know what she was doing. Someone else walked by and said ‘I think we should turn it down.’
I’m on antibiotics and motrin. My head is pounding right now. Does this sound like a typical root canal experience?
Answer 1: Whoa - 4 hours? I’ve had two and one took about an hour and a half total and the other might have taken 2 max.
The first one I had little or no pain during the actual procedure but had a lot of pain the next few days but they prescribed me vicodin (score!). The second one I had some pain during the procedure and absolutely none afterwards.
Answer 2: Depends who you talk to. Some root canals seem to go a lot smoother than others. I’ve had a few myself and was sore for a few days. Warm tea bags on the area you hurt helped as it served as a healing agent. Try it and feel better!!
Answer 3: I’m guessing a 1st molar & a relatively new general dentist. Tooth # 3/14 can have 4-5 roots to obturate. 5 hrs 45 minutes is not normal-she should have scheduled you for 2 appointments.
Answer 4: WTF kind of dentist did a 5 hour root canal??????? I’m in the field and there is NO WAY it takes that long, even if completely calcified. Here’s a lil something for all you folks who need RCT. Your General dentists are NOT endodontists. IF they choose to do a root canal, it’s usually on a cuspid or incisor. Easy for them, because only one canal. If it’s a molar they should send you to a specialist. General dentists take ONLY a weekend course here or there to learn how to do Root Canals. Endo’s specialize and NEVER EVER take 5 hours. Even if it’s 2 teeth.
As for the N2O on for that long? Maybe a lil nausea might be a side effect, but that would be immediate. Might take longer then 20 mins to wear off. I’m not too sure. I’ve never had a patient on it longer then 45 mins.
IMO, unless you’re a dental phobe, it’s not necessary and just a money maker for the doc. Also, your jaw is gonna be sore for a few days. Avoid using those teeth for about two weeks and use anti-inflammatories and you’ll be OK.
Answer 5: I had to leave disney to find a dentist on a family vacation. Then spent the remaining part of the day riding “Everest” over and over with my kids. You haven’t suffered until you subject a freshly carved up nerve to the G-forces of a roller coaster. I was actively praying for my death.
Finding Ways To Help Yourself Out Of Depression
March 26, 2009 on 12:30 pm | In Uncategorized | Comments Off
There are a range of depression related disorders that can make an individual feel physically drained, invoke a feeling of worthless, hopeless and helpless.
It is these negative ways of thinking and feeling that makes people want to give up.
It is essential to be aware that the negative ways of looking at things are part of depression.
These are distortions that usually are not based on actual circumstances. Negative thoughts disappear when the effects of depression management begins to take hold.
But while you wait for treatment to kick in, you can help yourself.
1. You should never take on lifes important decisions at times of depression. Before making major changes, like changing jobs, getting married or divorced, it is better to consult with friends and family or even seek professional assistance if it is not possible to put off an important decision.
2. Try to be together with and to trust someone, it is always better than being alone and not talking to anyone.
3. Divide life into small goals, set yourself a list of these goals and prioritize them and try to achieve as much as you can without pushing yourself too hard.
4. Push yourself as much as you feel you are able to be involved in any hobbies, pastimes or activities that will make you feel more relaxed.
5. Do light exercise, go to a sports event or the movie, or participating in any kind of group such as a church, or a social group of like minded people or perhaps take on additional education.
6. You need to be realistic about the goals that you set for yourself, taking into account the depression, and do not try to assume too much responsibility.
7. Do not expect that your general mood will change or improve quickly, these changes are a steady process that can only be achieved with time, there is no shortcut.
8. It is highly unusual that people leave a state of depression overnight, but it is very possible to improve a little better on a day to day basis.
Being positive in the way that you think will eventually take the place of the overwhelming negative thoughts that are a very natural part of depression. Negative patterns will disappear as soon as your depressive state begins to respond to the treatment and your own changes in mind-set.
Remember, as soon as your depression responds to treatment, negative thoughts will be replaced by a more positive outlook on life.
